Don’t listen to people who think the OSR has no procedures. The majority of OSR games owe at least something to B/X D&D. It is full of procedures! Procedures for moving through the dungeon. Procedures for hex crawling. Procedures for avoiding/escaping from another group in the wilderness.

People love Shadowdark for its procedures, because those procedures manage how a group of players experience the dungeon.

Seriously, 95% of the people gatekeeping the OSR don’t understand it. Make the game you want to play and slap the OSR label on it if it feels right to you. It’s a BIG umbrella!

Thanks for the encouraging words! They help a lot.

I felt the same about procedures, but I ran into some people who were very much against them, or who thought mine were too “convoluted/complicated” to belong in the OSR space.

But I guess it's what you say, a lot of people gatekeeping the OSR space only know a small part of it, or don’t understand it. But also, I think, some people are very reluctant to accept rules, procedures, themes, aesthetics, etc, that take the game away from what they are used to experiencing, perhaps for fear that the space they love will become alien to them.

And yes! I think I will go with my initial intent, and I will slap that OSR label on the game.
